In 2003 KHIC, in partnership with Technology 2020, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, founded the Southern Appalachian Fund to invest in high-growth ventures throughout Kentucky and Tennessee and the northern portions of Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. |

Launched in 2005 with more than $5 million in funding, the Kentucky Seed Capital Fund invests in early-stage Kentucky businesses that specialize in biomedical products, health-care services, medical devices, and health-care information technology. KSCF invests at a company¹s earliest stages, providing critical capital at a stage of development when there are few capital sources, developing a pipeline of investment opportunities for later-stage venture funds. In its first year of operation, the KSCF invested in three promising companies, all of which emerged from research at Kentucky universities. KSCF has offices in the Louisville Medical Center and at UK¹s Coldstream Research Campus. |
