Commerce Lexington, Inc., was formed in January 2004 with the merger of the Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce, Lexington United, and the Lexington Partnership for Workforce Development. Commerce Lexington, Inc. seeks to promote economic development, job creation, and overall business growth in Lexington and its neighboring communities, while strengthening its existing businesses through the many programs and services that the organization offers. It was created to provide more continuity and enhanced focus in the areas of business, economic development, and workforce development, essentially One Team, One Vision, One Voice. On behalf of business, Commerce Lexington, Inc. also works with local government and surrounding communities to enhance business and economic development opportunities in and around the Lexington area.
An important part of UK's mission is to be a catalyst for economic growth and to broaden and strengthen the development of the Kentucky economy through the effective management of technology transfer, entrepreneurship, and business outreach by supporting the creation of jobs, careers, businesses, and wealth. With it's connection to the Lexington Venture Club the Office of Commercialization and Economic Development works to strengthen ties and decision-making capability with federal agencies, state government, Lexington business and civic leaders, and the business community throughout the state.
